ImageThe story of the construction of this incredibly beautiful Brooklyn Bridge is even more unbelievably amazing. The idea of this spectacular bridge came to one of the finest engineers of all time, John Roebling in 1883. He had a vision to make a bridge that would connect Long Island and New York. Engineers throughout the world thought that constructing a bridge of such type was simply impossible, but the vision of Roebling was much ahead of his time and his determination was not shaken in the least by the demoralizing opinions of his contemporaries. He simply could never afford ignoring the idea and vision of his suspension bridge. While rest of the world was busy thinking this was practically impossible, Roebling remained determined in his heart. He knew deep down there that this could be done and then he finally convinced his son Washington, an upcoming engineer to build the bridge of his dreams. This was the very first time that they were working together. So they started with lot of enthusiasm, made the plan and hired a crew. And the work began. But after a few month’s work a tragic accident at the site caused death of Roebling. In spite of the death of his father Washington did not give up and continued the work his father had started. But soon Washington suffered a very bad fate too. He suffered a brain damage and was so badly injured internally that his whole body became immobile. He could move only 1 finger.

As the work started, they received all sorts of negative comments that it is foolish to chase such dreams which are totally impractical. But handicap Washington was not disheartened by it in the least. He and his father were the only ones who had faith that the mission could be accomplished. Though he tried convincing many of his friends about the project but none of them showed any interest or faith. One day as Washington was lying on his hospital bed, an idea came into his mind, but what could he do? All he could do is move one finger! He decided that he would develop a code by communicating with his wife by moving a single finger. Thus with the tapping of his finger he made a code that only his wife understood and she passed on the instructions to the crew. For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions on his wife’s arm, until the bridge was finally completed.

The story of the Brooklyn bridge is the best example of “Never – Say – Die” attitude. It is the story of a man’s unbreakable determination who was considered crazy by rest of the world. It is also one of the best examples of the amazing team spirit Washington’s crew had. It teaches us that the dreams that are chased by persistence and determination always come true no matter what the odds are. Brooklyn Bridge is the spectacular symbol of the victory of a man’s determination over unwelcoming circumstances. Feel free to dream. No one can stop you. DREAM AND DREAM BIG. Brooklyn Bridge is the true WORDOFREEDOM of today. Whenever you underestimate yourselves remember the story of this spectacular bridge…. Brooklyn Bridge.. The Bridge that was build by one finger……………
